HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to congratulate Donald Gould, Jr. on the occasion of his retirement as chief of the Prospect Heights Fire Protection District; and

WHEREAS, Donald Gould, Jr. has served the Prospect Heights Fire Protection District since beginning as a volunteer in 1969; he was promoted to assistant chief in 1981, appointed chief in 1988, and became the district's first full-time chief in 2000; and

WHEREAS, Donald Gould, Jr. is the fourth fire chief in the history of the Prospect Heights Fire Protection District; his predecessors include his late father, Donald Gould, Sr.; and

WHEREAS, Donald Gould, Jr. has spent his career championing firefighting education by graduating from the School of Fire Protection at Oklahoma State University, becoming one of the first certified chief officers in the State of Illinois, and developing a firefighter certification training program; and

WHEREAS, Donald Gould, Jr. promoted safety and well-being in the communities served by the district and worked to bring paramedic services to Prospect Heights; and

WHEREAS, Donald Gould, Jr. secured public trust and authority through a referendum to issue $1.1 million in bonds to expand the fire station and modernize the fleet; and

WHEREAS, During the 28 years of Donald Gould, Jr.'s leadership, the Prospect Heights Fire Protection District has expanded from 30 paid-on-call firefighters responding to 600 calls a year from a single station to 50-plus part-time and full-time firefighters responding to about 2,000 calls a year from two stations; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Donald Gould, Jr. on the occasion of his retirement and wish him continued success and happiness in the future; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Donald Gould, Jr. as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
