HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Shirley
4Jean Green of Naperville, who passed away on September 30,
52016; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Shirley Green was born in Belleville to George and
7Hortense Tuerck on December 23, 1925; she moved to Matteson in
81961 with her husband, Kenneth H. Green; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Shirley Green was a legislative aide to the late
10Lynn Brenne; in 1974, she was elected Township Tax Assessor for
11Rich Township in the south suburbs, an office she held until
121994; she was a Certified Illinois Assessing Officer and served
13as liaison between the Cook County Assessor and the Township
14Assessors for 15 years; after her retirement in 1994 from the
15assessors position, she acted as a consultant and assessment
16analyst for Cook County Assessors Thomas C. Hynes and James M.
17Houlihan; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Shirley Green held the offices of President of the
19Cook County Township Assessors Division, President of the
20Township Officials of Cook County, President of the Illinois
21Assessment Institute, and President of the Township Officials
22of Illinois; she served on the Village of Matteson Plan

1Commission, the Economic Development Commission, and the
2Matteson Village Board; she was a member of the Matteson
3Library Board, the Illinois Philharmonic Orchestra Board, the
4American Cancer Society Board, and the Matteson District 162
5School Board; she was a member of the Matteson Rotary Club,
6where she served as the first female President; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Shirley Green received an award from the Illinois
8Township Assessors Association as well as the Marshall Thoreau
9Award for distinguished professional and personal dedication;
10the Matteson Area Chamber of Commerce honored her with the
11Athena Award for excellence in her profession, providing
12valuable community services, and promoting support of
13professional women; and
 
14    WHEREAS, In 1993, the Senior Center of Rich Township was
15named the Shirley J. Green Senior Center; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Shirley Green was preceded in death by her
17parents; her husband, Kenneth Green; her sister, Elma (Tuerck)
18Hoff; her brother-in-law, Norman Hoff; and her nephew, James
19Hoff; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Shirley Green is survived by her sons, Michael
21(Kathy) Green, and Steven (Robin) Green; her brother, David
22(Prema) Tuerck; her grandchildren, Kevin (Stephanie) Green,

1Dana (Heather) Green, Matthew Green, Amy (Rob) McLear, Laura
2(Alex) Wilga, and Carter Farrar; her great-grandchildren,
3Madison Green, and Evan, Alexa, and Nathan McLear; her nieces
4and nephews, Kathy Scott, Thomas (Judy) Hoff, Karen (Gary)
5Voelker, Ken (Tina) Hoff, and John (Rachel) Tuerck; and 11
6great-nieces and nephews; therefore, be it
 
7    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
8NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
9mourn the passing of Shirley Jean Green, and extend our sincere
10condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved
11her; and be it further
 
12    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
13presented to the family of Shirley Green as an expression of
14our deepest sympathy.
