| 1 | | HOUSE RESOLUTION
| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | 3 | | Representatives are saddened to learn of the
death of Dr. | 4 | | Thomas A. Lawless, who passed away on June 21, 2016; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Lawless was born in Dixon to Thomas
Lawless | 6 | | and Phyllis Wells on July 1, 1947; he had two siblings, | 7 | | Patricia and Joe; and
| 8 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Lawless married Barbara Wojtowycz on August | 9 | | 31, 1968; they had three
children and nine
grandchildren; and
| 10 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Lawless graduated from Dixon High School in | 11 | | 1965; he continued his education
at Northern Illinois | 12 | | University, studying pre-optometry; upon completion of his | 13 | | undergraduate
degree, he enrolled in medical school at the | 14 | | Illinois College of Optometry, where he graduated cum laude
| 15 | | with a degree in optometry in 1971; and | 16 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Lawless opened his own practice in his | 17 | | hometown of Dixon in 1973, and worked there until 2010; he | 18 | | specialized in primary care optometry for 37 years until his | 19 | | business was sold and merged with KSB Hospital, where he worked | 20 | | for six years; and

| 1 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Lawless was a proud and meaningful servant to | 2 | | his community; his
involvement included Rehab for Dignity, the | 3 | | Lee County Council on Aging, the Society of St. Vincent
DePaul, | 4 | | the St. Patrick's Parish Council, and the St. Mary's School | 5 | | Board; and
| 6 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Lawless was loved dearly by his family and | 7 | | friends, highly
respected by his colleagues and a dedicated | 8 | | community servant who will be greatly missed by all those who | 9 | | knew him; therefore, be it
| 10 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | 11 | | NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | 12 | | mourn the passing of Dr. Thomas A. Lawless, and extend our | 13 | | sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew | 14 | | and loved him; and be it further
| 15 | | RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be | 16 | | presented to the family of Dr. Lawless as an expression of our | 17 | | deepest sympathy.
