1 HOUSE RESOLUTION

2     WHEREAS, It is highly fitting that the Illinois House of
3 Representatives pays honor and respect to individuals who have
4 given their lives in service to their communities; and

5     WHEREAS, Lt. L.C. Merrell Jr. served for 18 years as a
6 member of the Chicago Fire Department; and

7     WHEREAS, On April 29, 2000, while serving with Truck 24,
8 Lt. Merrell died of injuries sustained while responding to an
9 alarm; and

10     WHEREAS, Lt. Merrell was posthumously awarded an
11 associate's degree in fire science from Harold Washington
12 College; therefore, be it

13     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
14 NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
15 recognize the life of Lt. L.C. Merrell Jr., and thank his
16 family for the sacrifice he made while serving his community;
17 and be it further

18     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
19 presented to the family of Lt. Merrell as an expression of our
20 esteem and respect.
