HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, In 2016, CITGO will host the CITGO 90th Anniversary Celebration of its Lemont refinery; and

WHEREAS, One of the most iconic retail brands in the United States, CITGO has built its reputation on providing quality products and dependable services for people on the go; over the years, the company has helped keep the economy strong, not only with products such as gasoline, diesel fuel, jet fuel, lubricants, refined waxes, petrochemicals, and asphalt, but also through the hardworking people who refine, market, and transport them; and

WHEREAS, CITGO began as Lemont Refinery Services in 1925; the company employs over 800 employees and contractors with an average annual economic impact on Will County of $270 million; and

WHEREAS, Caring about the communities where the people of CITGO live and work is the foundation of the company's efforts to serve as a good corporate neighbor, from environmental programs such as the Lemont Heritage Quarries Recreation Area Restoration Project, a $250,000 investment which has drawn hundreds of volunteers to restore this historic natural habitat and promote environmental stewardship so that it is accessible to residents and students, to social programs like the Lemont Community Center, with total contributions of $500,000 and impacting approximately 100,000 area residents with social services programs such as a food pantry and meals for senior citizens; and

WHEREAS, The TeamCITGO volunteer organization, comprised of employees and their families, donate 2,000 hours annually to charitable organizations and have raised over $1 million that together have impacted 46 local charities and 113 programs for the United Way of Will County; since 2008, CITGO has raised over $4 million to support the Muscular Dystrophy Association, an organization that is seeking a cure for neuromuscular degeneration in young people and adults; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we recognize CITGO for its many significant contributions to the citizens of Illinois and urges the citizens of our State to join us in congratulating CITGO on the 90th anniversary of its Lemont refinery; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to CITGO as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
