HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to congratulate Elissa Hapner of Aurora on winning the Highland Games Women's World Championship; and

WHEREAS, Elissa Hapner entered the 52nd Annual Glenmorangie Arizona Scottish Gathering & Highland Games in Phoenix as one of the favorites; the competitions are often referred to as the "heavy events" because they involve throwing large objects - stones, poles, hay bales - for distance or height; this was her first time competing at the world championships; and

WHEREAS, Elissa Hapner competed in track and field in high school and college, where she was introduced to the Highland Games competition; and

WHEREAS, Elissa Hapner is a librarian at Gates Elementary School; she is in her fifth year as Library Resource Assistant; she coaches soccer, basketball, and softball and volunteers with the throwers on the East Aurora High School track and field team; and

WHEREAS, Elissa Hapner will be competing in the international competition in Canada in May; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Elissa Hapner of Aurora on winning the Highland Games Women's World Championship; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Elissa Hapner as an expression of our esteem and respect.
