HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, Clyde Robertson's (1922-2015) service to his community began in 1941, at the age of 19, as a teacher of seventh and eighth grades at the Creal Springs School; in 1943, he was drafted into the United States Army; and

WHEREAS, After being discharged at the end of World War II, Clyde Robertson returned to Creal Springs; he immediately resumed his community service as the first Commander of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Creal Springs, as well as by teaching night classes to local veterans; and

WHEREAS, Clyde Robertson worked as a rural mail carrier for 36 years; he served on the Creal Springs City Council from 1965 to 1969 and later served on the Creal Springs Park Board for many years, where he excelled in organizing the parade for the annual festival celebrating the founding of the city; he was well-known for the "biggest" parade in the area; and

WHEREAS, Clyde Robertson never missed a Sunday service at his beloved Creal Springs Methodist Church, where throughout the years he served in all positions; if you missed a Sunday service, he did not fail to call you with a cheerful "Hope to see you next Sunday" to let you know you were missed; and

WHEREAS, Clyde Robertson was a great inspiration to everyone, especially since he would not let a spinal cord injury he suffered in January of 1990, which made him spend most of his time in a wheel chair, prevent him from continuing his work in the community; and

WHEREAS, The Clyde Robertson Community Service Award was established in 1996 to be given to anyone who could "fill his shoes" in community service within the City of Creal Springs; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE SENATE CONCURRING HEREIN, that we designate the portion of Illinois Route 166 in Creal Springs that runs from White Street to Walnut Street as the "Clyde Robertson Memorial Highway"; and be it further

RESOLVED, That the Illinois Department of Transportation is requested to erect at suitable locations, consistent with State and federal regulations, appropriate plaques or signs giving notice of the name the "Clyde Robertson Memorial Highway"; and be it further

RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be presented to the family of Clyde Robertson, the Mayor of Creal Springs, and the Secretary of the Illinois Department of Transportation.
