HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, Clyde Robertson's (1922-2015) service to his
3community began in 1941, at the age of 19, as a teacher of
4seventh and eighth grades at the Creal Springs School; in 1943,
5he was drafted into the United States Army; and
 
6    WHEREAS, After being discharged at the end of World War II,
7Clyde Robertson returned to Creal Springs; he immediately
8resumed his community service as the first Commander of the
9Veterans of Foreign Wars in Creal Springs, as well as by
10teaching night classes to local veterans; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Clyde Robertson worked as a rural mail carrier for
1236 years; he served on the Creal Springs City Council from 1965
13to 1969 and later served on the Creal Springs Park Board for
14many years, where he excelled in organizing the parade for the
15annual festival celebrating the founding of the city; he was
16well-known for the "biggest" parade in the area; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Clyde Robertson never missed a Sunday service at
18his beloved Creal Springs Methodist Church, where throughout
19the years he served in all positions; if you missed a Sunday
20service, he did not fail to call you with a cheerful "Hope to
21see you next Sunday" to let you know you were missed; and

1    WHEREAS, Clyde Robertson was a great inspiration to
2everyone, especially since he would not let a spinal cord
3injury he suffered in January of 1990, which made him spend
4most of his time in a wheel chair, prevent him from continuing
5his work in the community; and
 
6    WHEREAS, The Clyde Robertson Community Service Award was
7established in 1996 to be given to anyone who could "fill his
8shoes" in community service within the City of Creal Springs;
9therefore, be it
 
10    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
11NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE
12SENATE CONCURRING HEREIN, that we designate the portion of
13Illinois Route 166 in Creal Springs that runs from White Street
14to Walnut Street as the "Clyde Robertson Memorial Highway"; and
15be it further
 
16    RESOLVED, That the Illinois Department of Transportation
17is requested to erect at suitable locations, consistent with
18State and federal regulations, appropriate plaques or signs
19giving notice of the name the "Clyde Robertson Memorial
20Highway"; and be it further
 
21    RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be
22presented to the family of Clyde Robertson, the Mayor of Creal
