HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, It is highly fitting that the Illinois General Assembly pays honor and respect to individuals who gave their lives in the line of duty; and

WHEREAS, Trooper Frank Doris was born on April 28, 1925; he served in World War II, entering active service as a draftee on August 20, 1943 at Chicago; and

WHEREAS, Trooper Frank Doris served in Europe and Africa; he was honorably discharged on April 9, 1946, having earned several medals and awards; and

WHEREAS, Trooper Frank Doris was assigned to work at the State Police Headquarters of District 12 in Watson; and

WHEREAS, As Trooper Doris was heading southbound on U.S. 45 to his residence 4 miles north of Flora, he stopped a car for speeding, and while he was sitting in a squad car filling out the arrest ticket, the suspect driver standing behind the squad car shot Trooper Doris in the head; and

WHEREAS, Other trooper patrols were able to apprehend the suspect and the suspect was convicted of the murder; and

WHEREAS, Trooper Frank Doris is fondly remembered and appreciated by family, friends, and the public whom he dutifully served; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE SENATE CONCURRING HEREIN, that we designate the section of Interstate 57 from the Tri-level south of Effingham to Watson Exit 151 as the "Trooper Frank Doris Memorial Highway"; and be it further

RESOLVED, That the Illinois Department of Transportation is requested to erect at suitable locations, consistent with State and federal regulations, appropriate plaques or signs giving notice of the name of the "Trooper Frank Doris Memorial Highway"; and be it further

RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be presented to the family of Trooper Frank Doris, the Illinois State Police, the Effingham Sunrise Rotary Club, the Mayor of the City of Effingham, and the Secretary of the Illinois Department of Transportation.
