HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, It is highly fitting that the Illinois General
3Assembly pays honor and respect to individuals who gave their
4lives in the line of duty; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Trooper Frank Doris was born on April 28, 1925; he
6served in World War II, entering active service as a draftee on
7August 20, 1943 at Chicago; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Trooper Frank Doris served in Europe and Africa;
9he was honorably discharged on April 9, 1946, having earned
10several medals and awards; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Trooper Frank Doris was assigned to work at the
12State Police Headquarters of District 12 in Watson; and
 
13    WHEREAS, As Trooper Doris was heading southbound on U.S. 45
14to his residence 4 miles north of Flora, he stopped a car for
15speeding, and while he was sitting in a squad car filling out
16the arrest ticket, the suspect driver standing behind the squad
17car shot Trooper Doris in the head; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Other trooper patrols were able to apprehend the
19suspect and the suspect was convicted of the murder; and

1    WHEREAS, Trooper Frank Doris is fondly remembered and
2appreciated by family, friends, and the public whom he
3dutifully served; therefore, be it
 
4    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
5NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE
6SENATE CONCURRING HEREIN, that we designate the section of
7Interstate 57 from the Tri-level south of Effingham to Watson
8Exit 151 as the "Trooper Frank Doris Memorial Highway"; and be
9it further
 
10    RESOLVED, That the Illinois Department of Transportation
11is requested to erect at suitable locations, consistent with
12State and federal regulations, appropriate plaques or signs
13giving notice of the name of the "Trooper Frank Doris Memorial
14Highway"; and be it further
 
15    RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be
16presented to the family of Trooper Frank Doris, the Illinois
17State Police, the Effingham Sunrise Rotary Club, the Mayor of
18the City of Effingham, and the Secretary of the Illinois
19Department of Transportation.
