HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois General Assembly wish to honor the members of the United States Armed Forces who have protected our nation; and

WHEREAS, America has called on her men and women in uniform to protect our national security, to advance our national interests, and to preserve our rights and freedoms; and

WHEREAS, The members of the United States Armed Forces have fought for our country's freedom; we shall never forget their sacrifice; and

WHEREAS, We remember and pay tribute to the millions of patriots whose courage and sacrifice have secured our freedom, beginning with the establishment of the Continental Army on June 14, 1775, many of whose members suffered through the harsh winter at Valley Forge and up to those who are keeping the peace and defending our values and interests around the globe today; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE SENATE CONCURRING HEREIN, that we designate the portion of Illinois Route 50 within Clinton County as the Veterans Memorial Highway; and be it further

RESOLVED, That the Illinois Department of Transportation is requested to erect at suitable locations, consistent with State and federal regulations, appropriate plaques or signs giving notice of the name of Veterans Memorial Highway; and be it further

RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be delivered to the Secretary of Transportation and the Secretary of Veterans Affairs.
