SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
225 ILCS 85/16c new

    Amends the Pharmacy Practice Act. Provides that, before mailing or shipping a prescription medication to a patient's residence, a pharmacy or nonresident pharmacy must telephone the patient, informing the patient of the type of prescription medication and its purpose and giving the patient the option to cancel delivery of the prescription medication. Effective immediately.

1    AN ACT concerning regulation.
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
 
4    Section 5. The Pharmacy Practice Act is amended by adding
5Section 16c as follows:
 
6    (225 ILCS 85/16c new)
7    Sec. 16c. Notice to patient prior to shipment of
8prescription medication. Before mailing or shipping a
9prescription medication to a patient's residence, a pharmacy or
10nonresident pharmacy must telephone the patient, informing the
11patient of the type of prescription medication and its purpose
12and giving the patient the option to cancel delivery of the
13prescription medication.
 
14    Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon
15becoming law.
