SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
10 ILCS 5/3-4  from Ch. 46, par. 3-4

    Amends the Election Code. Provides that a patient of any hospital or mental institution in this State who has resided at such hospital or mental institution for at least 180 days shall be deemed a resident and legal voter in the town, city, village, or election district or precinct in which such hospital or mental institution is situated. Effective immediately.

1    AN ACT concerning elections.
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
 
4    Section 5. The Election Code is amended by changing Section
53-4 as follows:
 
6    (10 ILCS 5/3-4)  (from Ch. 46, par. 3-4)
7    Sec. 3-4.
8    (a) No patient who has resided for less than 180 days in of
9any hospital or mental institution in this State, shall by
10virtue of his abode at such hospital or mental institution be
11deemed a resident or legal voter in the town, city, village or
12election district or precinct in which such hospital or mental
13institution may be situated; but every such person shall be
14deemed a resident of the town, city, village or election
15district or precinct in which he resided next prior to becoming
16a patient of such hospital or mental institution. However, the
17term "hospital" does not include skilled nursing facilities.
18    (b) A patient of any hospital or mental institution in this
19State who has resided at such hospital or mental institution
20for at least 180 days shall be deemed a resident and legal
21voter in the town, city, village, or election district or
22precinct in which such hospital or mental institution is
23situated.
