SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are deeply saddened to learn of the death of James D. "Jim" Pittman of Aurora, who passed away on December 2, 2012; and

WHEREAS, James Pittman was born on June 5, 1930, in Aurora to Herman and Ellen (nee Roots) Pittman; he attended Bardwell Elementary School, Immanuel Grade School, and East Aurora High School, where he earned letters in track and football and some fame with his quickness and speed; he attended Indiana State University and graduated from Aurora College with a bachelor of science degree; he spent 2 years in the U.S. Army at Fort Sill, Oklahoma; he married Doris Kettelson; and

WHEREAS, James Pittman returned to Aurora and began teaching at Benjamin Franklin Junior High School; he moved to West Aurora High School, where he taught biology for 34 years; during his time teaching, he coached golf and basketball, earning the nickname "Sarge", and earned his master's of education degree at the University of Illinois; and

WHEREAS, James Pittman was part owner of the video store, "Images on Video", and he sold real estate with McEnroe Real Estate for many years, both of Aurora; upon retirement, he worked as a starter and marshal at Orchard Valley Golf Course for 20 years; he was a member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church, the Golden Kiwanis, and the National Education Association and he enjoyed volunteering at Dryer Medical Center; and

WHEREAS, James Pittman enjoyed spending time with his family and traveling; his highlight was playing golf at the Old Course at St. Andrews in Scotland; and

WHEREAS, James Pittman was preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Ellen Roots; and

WHEREAS, James Pittman is survived by his wife of 60 years, Doris; his children, Craig (Jan) Pittman, Kristi Hoffmann, Scott (Kim) Pittman, and Kim (Tom) Thill; his grandchildren, Kyle and Bryan Pittman, Jake, Gavin (Tiffany), CJ Hayes, and Andrew Hoffman, Noelle Pittman, and Samuel and Jack Thill; his great-granddaughter, Eva Lynn Hayes; his sister, Marijo (William) Spick; and many nieces and nephews; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of James Pittman, and we extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of James Pittman as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
