SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are deeply
3saddened to learn of the death of James D. "Jim" Pittman of
4Aurora, who passed away on December 2, 2012; and
 
5    WHEREAS, James Pittman was born on June 5, 1930, in Aurora
6to Herman and Ellen (nee Roots) Pittman; he attended Bardwell
7Elementary School, Immanuel Grade School, and East Aurora High
8School, where he earned letters in track and football and some
9fame with his quickness and speed; he attended Indiana State
10University and graduated from Aurora College with a bachelor of
11science degree; he spent 2 years in the U.S. Army at Fort Sill,
12Oklahoma; he married Doris Kettelson; and
 
13    WHEREAS, James Pittman returned to Aurora and began
14teaching at Benjamin Franklin Junior High School; he moved to
15West Aurora High School, where he taught biology for 34 years;
16during his time teaching, he coached golf and basketball,
17earning the nickname "Sarge", and earned his master's of
18education degree at the University of Illinois; and
 
19    WHEREAS, James Pittman was part owner of the video store,
20"Images on Video", and he sold real estate with McEnroe Real
21Estate for many years, both of Aurora; upon retirement, he
22worked as a starter and marshal at Orchard Valley Golf Course

1for 20 years; he was a member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church, the
2Golden Kiwanis, and the National Education Association and he
3enjoyed volunteering at Dryer Medical Center; and
 
4    WHEREAS, James Pittman enjoyed spending time with his
5family and traveling; his highlight was playing golf at the Old
6Course at St. Andrews in Scotland; and
 
7    WHEREAS, James Pittman was preceded in death by his
8parents, Herman and Ellen Roots; and
 
9    WHEREAS, James Pittman is survived by his wife of 60 years,
10Doris; his children, Craig (Jan) Pittman, Kristi Hoffmann,
11Scott (Kim) Pittman, and Kim (Tom) Thill; his grandchildren,
12Kyle and Bryan Pittman, Jake, Gavin (Tiffany), CJ Hayes, and
13Andrew Hoffman, Noelle Pittman, and Samuel and Jack Thill; his
14great-granddaughter, Eva Lynn Hayes; his sister, Marijo
15(William) Spick; and many nieces and nephews; therefore, be it
 
16    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL
17ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
18James Pittman, and we extend our sincere condolences to his
19family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
20further
 
21    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
