HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to congratulate Gerald Gulley on the occasion of his retirement as Executive Director of SHORE Community Services, Inc.; and

WHEREAS, Gerald Gulley has worked for SHORE Community Services, Inc., a not-for-profit agency working with children and adults with developmental disabilities (DD) for over 41 years; he has served as Executive Director of the organization for the last 34 years; and

WHEREAS, Gerald Gulley has always put SHORE's mission, which is to improve the quality of life for persons with developmental disabilities, first; with over 500 individuals served annually, Gerald has ably led the organization in providing services that enable people to live life with the best possible quality, dignity, and respect; and

WHEREAS, Gerald Gulley has been instrumental in the growth and expansion of SHORE's programs, including housing options, programs for vocational training, early intervention, and programs for seniors and adults with severe/profound developmental disabilities; under his leadership, the agency recently recorded its highest netting fundraiser, with $132,000 raised in April; and

WHEREAS, Gerald Gulley is a member of the Illinois Rehabilitation Association, the Governor's Planning Council on Developmental Disabilities, and the Chicago Community Trust's Persons With Disabilities Board; he is also a past president and a member of the Kiwanis Club of Evanston; and

WHEREAS, Gerald Gulley has been the recipient of numerous awards for his work in the community, including the Outstanding Dedication designation as the President of the Kiwanis Club of Evanston in 1989 - 1990, the Appreciation Award from SHORE Community Services for 25 years of dedicated service in 1995, the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Illinois Association of Rehabilitation Facilities in 1999, the Hixson Award from the Kiwanis Club of Evanston in 2001, the Legion of Honor Award for 25 Years or More of Service from the Kiwanis Club of Evanston in 2002, and the Luis V. Amador Medallion Award for outstanding service within his or her community from the Kiwanis Club of Evanston; he was also honored by the Evanston Chamber of Commerce with the NorthShore University HealthSystem Public Service/Nonprofit Award for serving the community for 40 years in 2010; and

WHEREAS, Gerald Gulley serves as a model of hard work, integrity, and dedication for the people of the State of Illinois; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Gerald Gulley on the occasion of his retirement and wish him many happy and healthy retirement years; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Gerald Gulley as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
