| 1 | | SENATE RESOLUTION | 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened | 3 | | to learn of the death of Ronald R. Nelson of New Windsor, who | 4 | | passed away on December 27, 2023; and | 5 | | WHEREAS, Ronald Nelson was born to Earle and Beulah | 6 | | (Thomas) Nelson in New Windsor on July 29, 1930; he attended | 7 | | New Windsor public schools, graduating as valedictorian in | 8 | | 1948; and | 9 | | WHEREAS, Ronald Nelson enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps | 10 | | in January 1949, serving in the Korean and Vietnam Wars; he | 11 | | also served several additional tours overseas and fulfilled | 12 | | numerous assignments in the U.S.; he retired with the rank of | 13 | | master sergeant after 21 years of service; and | 14 | | WHEREAS, After his military service, Ronald Nelson | 15 | | returned to New Windsor to assist in caring for his parents; he | 16 | | also he worked as a bartender for the Bea and Wayne Bar in | 17 | | Woodhull; and | 18 | | WHEREAS, Ronald Nelson was a man of strong faith who was | 19 | | baptized and confirmed at the United Presbyterian Church; he | 20 | | was a fan of the Chicago Cubs and the Chicago Bears; and |

| 1 | | WHEREAS, Ronald Nelson was preceded in death by his | 2 | | parents; his siblings, Stanley Nelson, Harry Nelson, and | 3 | | Loretta Pheiffer; and his baby brother, Clifford Nelson; and | 4 | | WHEREAS, Ronald Nelson is survived by his siblings, Karen | 5 | | Homer, Mary Anne Potratz, James Nelson, and Terry Nelon, and | 6 | | their families; therefore, be it | 7 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL | 8 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | 9 | | Ronald R. Nelson and extend our sincere condolences to his | 10 | | family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | 11 | | further | 12 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 13 | | presented to the family of Ronald Nelson as an expression of | 14 | | our deepest sympathy. |
