SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Ronald R. Nelson of New Windsor, who passed away on December 27, 2023; and

WHEREAS, Ronald Nelson was born to Earle and Beulah (Thomas) Nelson in New Windsor on July 29, 1930; he attended New Windsor public schools, graduating as valedictorian in 1948; and

WHEREAS, Ronald Nelson enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps in January 1949, serving in the Korean and Vietnam Wars; he also served several additional tours overseas and fulfilled numerous assignments in the U.S.; he retired with the rank of master sergeant after 21 years of service; and

WHEREAS, After his military service, Ronald Nelson returned to New Windsor to assist in caring for his parents; he also he worked as a bartender for the Bea and Wayne Bar in Woodhull; and

WHEREAS, Ronald Nelson was a man of strong faith who was baptized and confirmed at the United Presbyterian Church; he was a fan of the Chicago Cubs and the Chicago Bears; and

WHEREAS, Ronald Nelson was preceded in death by his parents; his siblings, Stanley Nelson, Harry Nelson, and Loretta Pheiffer; and his baby brother, Clifford Nelson; and

WHEREAS, Ronald Nelson is survived by his siblings, Karen Homer, Mary Anne Potratz, James Nelson, and Terry Nelon, and their families; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Ronald R. Nelson and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Ronald Nelson as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
