SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Fern Graven of Springfield, who passed away on December 15, 2022; and

WHEREAS, Fern Graven was born to Fred and Ruth (McCoy) Thacker in Shelbyville on May 23, 1935; she graduated from Shelbyville High School in 1954; she married Wendell Graven on December 31, 1954, and they shared 67 years of marriage before he preceded her in death on February 28, 2022; and

WHEREAS, Fern Graven worked at PN Hirsch Department Store and at Stephens Greenhouse; and

WHEREAS, Fern Graven's life was filled with laughter; she enjoyed celebrating holidays and birthdays with loved ones, camping trips with family, and attending her children's and grandchildren's sporting events; and

WHEREAS, Fern Graven cherished her roles as a wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend; and

WHEREAS, Fern Graven was preceded in death by her parents, her four brothers, and her five sisters; and

WHEREAS, Fern Graven is survived by her sons, Dean (Stacey) Graven and Doug (Amy Cashman) Graven; her grandchildren, Tina Gardiner, Kyle Graven, Bryon Graven, and Brett Graven; her six great-grandchildren; her four great-great-grandchildren; her many nieces, nephews, and cousins; and her granddog, Rudy; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Fern Graven and extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Fern Graven as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
