HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to congratulate Deborah Lane on the
4occasion of her retirement from the Chicago Transit Authority;
5and
 
6    WHEREAS, Deborah Lane has been a member of her union for 33
7years and has served in a number of positions, including as the
8first female president of the Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU)
9Illinois Joint Conference and as the financial
10secretary/treasurer and first organizer of the Amalgamated
11Transit Union-Local 308; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Deborah Lane has deep ties to the labor movement
13in Illinois; in 1993, she first took a union steward class, and
14in 2017, she was mentored by the legendary Chicago Teachers
15Union President Karen Lewis; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Deborah Lane, as the head of the ATU Illinois
17Joint Conference, represented 15 union locals and almost
1820,000 members from across the State of Illinois; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Deborah Lane is a fighter for working people; she
20assisted in the process of winning important benefits for
21workers in the 2018 ATU-CTA contract, which included pay

1increases of 9.5% and a freeze on healthcare increases for her
2membership; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Deborah Lane has played an integral role in
4electing Democrats across the country, including President
5Joseph Biden, Governor JB Pritzker, Mayor Lori Lightfoot, and
6Senator Warnock; most recently, she served as campaign manager
7for Congressman Jonathan Jackson; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Deborah Lane's family is just as important to her
9as her work; she is the proud mother of three, Errin, Erwin,
10and Nicholas, and is the daughter of Mamie L. Cosey and the
11late Rev. Richard C. Cosey; therefore, be it
 
12    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
13HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
14we congratulate Deborah Lane on her retirement from the
15Chicago Transit Authority; and be it further
 
16    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
17presented to Deborah Lane as a symbol of our respect and
18esteem.
