HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to congratulate Marian "Cindy" Pritzker
4on the occasion of her 100th birthday in December 2023; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Cindy Pritzker was born to Judge Hugo Friend and
6Sadie (Cohn) Friend in Chicago in December 1923; she graduated
7from Hyde Park High School in 1943 and attended Grinnell
8College in Iowa from 1943 to 1945; she married Jay A. Pritzker
9in 1947, and together they had five children, the late Nancy,
10Thomas, John, Daniel, and Gigi; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Cindy Pritzker served on the Board of Trustees
12for Grinnell College from 1971 to 1978, as chairwoman of the
13President's Council for the Museum of Science and Industry in
14Chicago from 1982 to 1983, as president of the Chicago Public
15Library from 1989 to 1997, and as a member of the Board of
16Directors for the Chicago Public Library from 1984 to 1997;
17and
 
18    WHEREAS, Cindy Pritzker is the past president of the
19Chicago Public Library Foundation and has been a member of the
20Board of Directors of the Art Institute of Chicago, the
21Medical Research Institute Council of Michael Reese Hospital,
22the Emergency Fund for Needy People, the Women's Board of

1Northwestern University, the Board of Directors at the Museum
2of Science and Industry, the Women's Board of the Lyric Opera
3of Chicago, and the Friends of Psychiatry Committee at
4Stanford University, where she has also been active in its
5Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Cindy Pritzker currently serves as a board member
7for the Pritzker Architecture Prize, an international prize
8established by her and her husband through the Hyatt
9Foundation in 1979, which is awarded each year to a living
10architect or architects for significant achievement;
11therefore, be it
 
12    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
13HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
14we congratulate Marian "Cindy" Pritzker on her 100th birthday
15in December 2023; and be it further
 
16    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
17presented to Cindy Pritzker as an expression of our esteem and
18respect.
