HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to congratulate Southwestern Illinois College Sam Wolf Granite City Campus on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of its founding; and

WHEREAS, The Granite City Center opened in 1983, occupying the previous Granite City North High School building; aviation maintenance was the first program as training moved from the Cahokia Airport to the Granite City Center; along with aviation maintenance, machining and a few transfer courses were offered; and

WHEREAS, The Granite City Center received approval from the Illinois Community College Board to become the Granite City Campus of Belleville Area College in 1985; the campus offered a robust curriculum, including transfer and industrial training programs to support the local industries, along with community interest courses and adult education; and

WHEREAS, The Granite City campus gymnasium was converted into an industrial training center in 1992; the new facility opened and supported expanded programming in areas such as pipefitting, electronics, welding, appliance repair and heating, air conditioning, and refrigeration repair in 1994; and

WHEREAS, Belleville Area College was renamed Southwestern Illinois College in 2000 to more closely align with the region served; and

WHEREAS, To honor Southwestern Illinois College Trustee and former Illinois House of Representative Sam Wolf for his long-time dedication to higher education and the residents of Southern Illinois, the college renamed the Granite City Campus as the Sam Wolf Granite City Campus in 2006; and

WHEREAS, The Sam Wolf Granite City Campus remains a premier educational institution offering a wide array of career and technical education programs in industrial trades and health care and transfer courses; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Southwestern Illinois College Sam Wolf Granite City Campus on its 40th anniversary and wish them many more wonderful years; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Southwestern Illinois College Sam Wolf Granite City Campus as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
