HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to congratulate the Jerseyville Motor
4Company, Inc. on the occasion of its 100th anniversary; and
 
5    WHEREAS, The Jerseyville Motor Company was established by
6R. Leo Smith at 301 North State Street in Jerseyville in 1923;
7and
 
8    WHEREAS, Operating as a Ford dealership, the Jerseyville
9Motor Company's first sale was a Ford LTD; and
 
10    WHEREAS, The Jerseyville Motor Company moved to its
11current location at 1205 South State Street in Jerseyville in
121983; and
 
13    WHEREAS, The Jerseyville Motor Company sold Mercury
14vehicles until the Ford brand was discontinued in 2011; and
 
15    WHEREAS, The Jerseyville Motor Company began selling Ford
16electric vehicles (EVs) in 2022; and
 
17    WHEREAS, The Jerseyville Motor Company sells over 500 new
18and used vehicles each year; and

1    WHEREAS, Today, the Jerseyville Motor Company is one of
2the largest privately owned employers in Jersey County; the
3business currently employs 22 loyal workers, with the average
4tenure per employee being 17 years; and
 
5    WHEREAS, The Jerseyville Motor Company has received
6multiple Ford President's Awards from the Ford Motor Company,
7one of the motor company's most prestigious awards in
8recognition of dealers who have achieved the highest levels of
9customer satisfaction in their respective Customer Viewpoint
10Group; and
 
11    WHEREAS, The Jerseyville Motor Company remains a family
12owned and operated business across four generations, having
13been passed down from R. Leo Smith to his son-in-law, Matt
14Dwyer, who led the company until his retirement in the
15mid-1980s; the business was then taken over by his own son,
16David Dwyer, who serves as its current owner, and it currently
17employs John David Dwyer, his son; therefore, be it
 
18    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
19HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
20we congratulate the Jerseyville Motor Company, Inc. on its
21100th anniversary, and we wish the business continued success
22in the future; and be it further

1    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
2presented to the Dwyer family as an expression of our esteem
3and respect.
