SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Leonard C. "Norche" VanDeWalle of East Moline, who passed away on March 2, 2022; and

WHEREAS, Leonard VanDeWalle was born to Leonard and Stella (Theuninck) VanDeWalle in Moline on December 21, 1931; he graduated from United Township High School; he was attending the University of Iowa on a football scholarship when he joined the U.S. Navy in 1955; he married Shirley Baker in East Moline on November 24, 1956, and she preceded him in death on February 8, 1999; and

WHEREAS, Leonard VanDeWalle was a member of East Moline American Legion Post 227 for 50 years; he was a fan of the Chicago Cubs, the Chicago Bears, and the Iowa Hawkeyes; he worked out at the YMCA every day until his health no longer permitted it; he enjoyed fishing, boating, and walking; most of all, he enjoyed going for a ride; and

WHEREAS, Leonard VanDeWalle is survived by his daughter, Sherry (Alan) Spicer, her children, Toby (Shelley) Spicer, Hiedi Spicer, Dustin (Tanya) Spicer, and Angel (Zak) Knox, and their children, Chase, Callista, Libbi, Gracci, Broddy, Cannden, Emmi, and Jacci; and his stepson, Terry (Sandy) Browne, his sons, Bryan and Todd, and their extended families; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Leonard C. "Norche" VanDeWalle and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Leonard VanDeWalle as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
