SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Robert E. Merrill of Colona, who passed away on May 13, 2021; and

WHEREAS, Robert Merrill was born in Moline to Joseph and Adia "Irene" DeVore Merrill on November 13, 1944; he served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Era; he married Barbara Draper in Rock Island on December 24, 1970, and she preceded him in death on February 17, 2013; and

WHEREAS, Robert Merrill worked as a machine repairman at IH in East Moline; and

WHEREAS, Robert Merrill was a member of the Colona American Legion, Geneseo VFW Post 5083, Disabled American Veterans, and Vietnam Veterans of America; he also helped establish the Henry County Veterans Assistance Commission; and

WHEREAS, Robert Merrill was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and his brothers, James, Joseph, and Norman; and

WHEREAS, Robert Merrill is survived by his children, Christopher (Sharon) Merrill, Mechelle "Missy" (John) Larson, Jody (Thad) Lindstrom, and Robert "Bobby" (Kelly) Merrill; his grandchildren, Terry Larson, Jonathon Larson, Sommer Larson, Devan Markin, Tiera White, Kristina McCool, Kalista Merrill, Spencer Lindstrom, Dawson Merrill, and Alyse Merrill; his great-grandchildren, Elijah Ford, Chloe Wheat, Christopher Zane White, Airabella White, and Harlie Halderman; his brothers, John (Rita) Merrill and Jack (Barbara) Merrill; his sister, Joan (Jerry) Kinkead; his sister-in-law, Lois Merrill; and his special friend, Lynda Smith; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Robert E. Merrill and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Robert Merrill as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
