SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Carolyn Elaine Shanklin, who passed away on September 25, 2022; and

WHEREAS, Carolyn Shanklin was born to Ernestine Black and Melvin Ellington in Springfield on September 20, 1949; she married Leon Shanklin on May 27, 1967; and

WHEREAS, Carolyn Shanklin was a retired accountant for the State of Illinois; she was a phenomenal cook and started her own catering company, the Shanklin Family Connection; and

WHEREAS, Carolyn Shanklin was a devoted member of Zion Missionary Baptist Church; and

WHEREAS, Carolyn Shanklin enjoyed the arts, crafting, and spending time with her children and grandchildren; and

WHEREAS, Carolyn Shanklin was preceded in death by her parents; her grandson, Gary N. Shanklin; and her sister, Sandra Kay Irwin; and

WHEREAS, Carolyn Shanklin is survived by her husband, Leon Shanklin; her sons, Gregory Shanklin and Leon N. Shanklin; her sisters, Marcia Myles and Doris (Tony) Whitaker; her five grandchildren; her four great-grandchildren; her special loved one, Yolanda Perez; and a host of family members and friends; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Carolyn Elaine Shanklin and extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Carolyn Shanklin as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
