SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Cora Lee "Jackie" Brown, who passed
4away on September 18, 2022; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Jackie Brown was born to Bessie L. Brown and Alex
6Gosia in Doddsville, Mississippi on June 14, 1944; she was
7raised in Doddsville until her family relocated to Greenwood,
8Mississippi in 1955; she attended the Delta Industrial
9Institute and Broad Street High School, where she was a member
10of the women's basketball team and track team; she enrolled at
11Panama City Junior College in Panama City, Florida; she
12relocated to Chicago in March 1964; she married Eddie J. Brown
13Jr. at Timmons Holy Temple Church of God in Christ (COGIC) on
14December 5, 1964; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Jackie Brown was a stay-at-home mom who enjoyed
16treating her family and friends to home cooked meals; she
17began working part-time as a check processing clerk with
18Continental Bank in the 1990s; after moving to full-time, she
19became a supervisor/area coordinator over a section of clerks;
20she was regarded as a well-respected and beloved supervisor;
21and
 
22    WHEREAS, Jackie Brown was a member of Timmons Holy Temple

1COGIC until she moved her membership to Robinson Temple COGIC,
2which later converted to New Mt. Olive COGIC; while a member of
3New Mt. Olive, she served as the minister of music, where she
4was an outstanding choir director; she also held the position
5of assistant minister of music for Greater Love District, 5th
6Jurisdiction of Illinois Churches of God in Christ; in her
7later years, she moved her membership to New Covenant COGIC;
8she became a member of Alpha Baptist Church U.C.C. in March
92001, where she served as minister of music and received her
10reverend license; she later became a member of St. Luke COGIC;
11and
 
12    WHEREAS, Jackie Brown was preceded in death by her
13husband; her parents; her chosen daughter, Ida Cleaves; and
14her brothers, Roosevelt Harvey, Joseph Anderson, Sammie
15Anderson, James Anderson, and Larry Brown; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Jackie Brown is survived by her children, Cedric
17Eugene (Regina), Karen Latrice, Kimberly Ann (Derrick),
18Patrick Alexander (Melanie), and Eddie J. III (Nytrania); her
19nephew raised as her own, Paul David; her grandchildren,
20Shantel, Keith, Karen, Kymyatta, Kiara, Kyra, Kylin, Ambria,
21Nicholas, Avrie, Autumn, Erin, Eric, Shannon, Shiree,
22Sherwoodia, Shameka, and Wilson; her great-grandchildren; her
23sisters, Dorothy (Willie) Brown and Myra Jewett; her brother,
24JC Williams; and a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces,

1great-nephews, great-great-nieces, great-great-nephews,
2cousins, extended family, and friends; therefore, be it
 
3    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL
4ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
5Cora Lee "Jackie" Brown and extend our sincere condolences to
6her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it
7further
 
8    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
9presented to the family of Jackie Brown as an expression of our
10deepest sympathy.
