SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Marvin "Mike" Hines of East Moline,
4who passed away on September 5, 2022; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Mike Hines was born to R. Otto and Lydia (Greely)
6Hines in Moline on January 23, 1931; he graduated from Moline
7High School in 1949; he served as a sergeant in the U.S. Army
8during the Korean War from 1951 to 1954; he married Willadean
9Huffman on October 21, 1956; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Mike Hines was a design engineer at Eagle Signal
11from 1959 to 1963; he then worked as a senior technician at the
12John Deere Moline Technical Center, retiring in 1987 after 22
13years; he made significant contributions to the
14instrumentation and electronics field; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Mike Hines started Mike's Kites, creating custom
16stunt kites and flying them throughout the community; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Mike Hines was a member of Believers Baptist
18Church in Coal Valley; he was previously a member of Moline
19Gospel Temple, where he designed and maintained the
20once-treasured fountain; and

1    WHEREAS, Mike Hines enjoyed traveling with his wife and
2visited all 50 states; he had a talent for fixing things, and
3he especially enjoyed restoring his 1965 Mustang; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Mike Hines was preceded in death by his parents;
5his son, Darren Hines; his grandson, Adam Hines; his sisters,
6Dorothy Root, Fay Hemphill, and an unnamed twin sister; and
7his brothers, Calvin "Ellis" Hines, Wade Hines, Irvin "Bill"
8Hines, and Ivan "Bob" Hines; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Mike Hines is survived by his wife of 65 years,
10Willadean; his daughter, Dana (Dan) Anderson; his son, Paul
11(Mary) Hines; his grandchildren, Kelly Sikkema, Steven Hines,
12Colleen Weber, Taylor VanTryon, Jacob Anderson, Sarah
13Anderson, and Jason Anderson; and his great-grandchildren,
14Owen, Nora, Leah, and Jayson; therefore, be it
 
15    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL
16ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
17Marvin "Mike" Hines and extend our sincere condolences to his
18family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
19further
 
20    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
21presented to the family of Mike Hines as an expression of our
22deepest sympathy.
