SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Michael F. Powers Jr. of Des Plaines, who passed away on July 8, 2022; and

WHEREAS, Michael Powers was born to Michael Powers Sr. and Marie D'Andrea in Chicago on October 6, 1934; he earned his teaching degree from National Louis University; and

WHEREAS, Michael Powers worked as a teacher at South School in District 62 for over 35 years; he loved his students and influenced many lives in a profound way; and

WHEREAS, Michael Powers was a member of St. Mary Church of Des Plaines where he served as a member of the parish council, organized fundraisers, and sang in the choir; he was also a member of the Des Plaines Elks Lodge and volunteered at both Holy Family and Lutheran General Hospitals; and

WHEREAS, Michael Powers managed a south-side Des Plaines Little League team for many years; and

WHEREAS, Michael Powers was a kind, patient, enthusiastic, and optimistic person who enjoyed traveling, sports, history, reading, and, most of all, interacting with people; he was a White Sox fan and loved playing golf; he was an outstanding singer and was proud of his Irish ancestry; he enjoyed singing with the Irish Heritage Singers of Chicago and loved the many friendships he established through the organization; and

WHEREAS, Michael Powers was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Thomas Powers; his nephew, David Powers; and his sister-in-law, Patricia Obidowicz; and

WHEREAS, Michael Powers is survived by his wife of 58 years, Carole; his brother, David Powers; his nieces and nephews, Nancy Etzold, Dess Ann Fedele, Mathew Powers, Stephen Powers, Ashley Cunningham, Christopher Powers, Shelly Langguth, Jeffrey Langguth, Laura Hedrick Zoltowski, and Michael Hedrick; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Michael F. Powers Jr. and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Michael Powers as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
