SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Eric Nefstead of Winnebago, who passed
4away on November 2, 2013; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Eric Nefstead was born on September 9, 1943 in
6Rochelle; he grew up on a farm on the edge of Steward and
7graduated from Rochelle Township High School; he attended the
8University of Illinois until joining the United States Navy; he
9served 4 years, including one year in Vietnam as an Operating
10Room Technician attached to the 1st Marine Division Hospital in
11Da Nand and the 3rd Marine Division Hospital in Dong Ha; he
12also served at sea aboard the USS Valley Forge and the USS
13Tripoli; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Following his time in the service, Eric Nefstead
15received his Bachelor of Science in Geography from Northern
16Illinois University; he focused on meteorology and climatology
17and worked as a broadcast meteorologist in North Dakota, Iowa,
18Wisconsin, and Illinois; in 1982, he received the American
19Meteorological Society Seal of Approval for Television
20Broadcasting; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Eric Nefstead enjoyed watching thunderstorms
22develop and learning how weather worked firsthand; he also

1liked gardening, beekeeping, and public speaking; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Eric Nefstead was preceded in death by his
3parents; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Eric Nefstead is survived by his son, Tovin "Tom"
5Nefstead; his sisters, Cathy and Margaet Nefstead; his niece,
6Michelle Hartman; his nephew, Matthew Nefstead; and good
7friend, Penelope Blake; therefore, be it
 
8    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL
9ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
10Eric Nefstead, and extend our sincere condolences to his
11family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
12further
 
13    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
14presented to the family of Eric Nefstead as an expression of
15our deepest sympathy.
