SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Charles James Shanklin of Springfield,
4who passed away on October 23, 2013; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Charles Shanklin was born in Columbus,
6Mississippi on June 10, 1940 to Ambus and Lizzie Mae (nee Cox)
7Shanklin; he attended Attucks Elementary School and graduated
8from East Saint Louis Lincoln High School in 1959; he served
9his country in the United States Army from October 1959 to
10February 1962, spending most of that time stationed in Alaska;
11he earned his Associate's Degree in Business Administration
12from Lincoln Land Community College and his Bachelor's and
13Master's Degree in Business and Public Administration from
14Sangamon State University; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Charles Shanklin retired from a career in
16government administration with the State of Illinois on June
1728, 2002; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Charles Shanklin was preceded in death by his
19parents; his brother, Byron Jerome Shanklin; and his
20half-sister, Carrie Moss; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Charles Shanklin is survived by his wife of 38

1years, Edna Ward Shanklin; his daughter, Charlyne Joelle
2Shanklin; his son, Charles James (Chandra) Shanklin, Jr.; his
3grandson, Gavin Shanklin; his brothers, Ambus (Dorothy)
4Shanklin and John Shanklin; his sisters-in-law, Janet Shanklin
5and Manila Spiller; his brothers-in-law, Charles Ward, Elwood
6(Patrica) Ward, and Lionel Ward; and several nephews, nieces,
7cousins, aunts, uncles, and friends; therefore, be it
 
8    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL
9ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
10Charles James Shanklin, and extend our sincere condolences to
11his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
12further
 
13    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
14presented to the family of Charles Shanklin as an expression of
15our deepest sympathy.
