SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Donald L. Harms of Atwater, who passed
4away on September 15, 2013; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Donald Harms was born on November 5, 1934 in
6Atwater; his parents were George E. and Hazel T. (nee Leach)
7Harms; he married Phyllis Steward on June 10, 1956 at the
8Atwater Christian Church; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Donald Harms graduated from Carlinville High
10School with the class of 1952; he served his country with pride
11as a member of the United States Army Reserve; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Donald Harms farmed his entire life while working
13first at Fiat-Allis in Springfield, where he worked until his
14retirement in 1981; he later worked as a rural mail carrier for
15the Waggoner Post Office, where he retired after 10 years of
16service; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Donald Harms was a member of St. Paul's United
18Church of Christ in Carlinville and the American Legion, Guy
19Baird Post 554; he also served on the board of Bethel Ridge
20Cemetery; and

1    WHEREAS, Donald Harms enjoyed hunting, watching western
2movies, and spending time with his family; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Donald Harms was preceded in death by his parents;
4his son, Bradley E. Harms; his brothers, Robert and Gerald; and
5his sister, Georgann Rudolph; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Donald Harms is survived by his loving spouse of
757 years, Phyllis; his daughters, Bev (Curt) Ruyle, Barb (Don)
8McDaniels, Betty (Jim) Scheldt, and Brenda (Harold) Smith; his
98 grandchildren; his 7 great-grandchildren; his brother,
10Harold "Gene" (Dorothy) Harms; his niece; and his many nephews;
11therefore, be it
 
12    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL
13ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his
14family and friends, mourn the passing of Donald L. Harms; and
15be it further
 
16    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
17presented to the family of Donald Harms as an expression of our
18sympathy.
