SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of David Anthony Bozeman, Sr., who passed
4away on July 7, 2013; and
 
5    WHEREAS, David Bozeman, Sr. attended Dunbar Elementary
6School and Clark Junior High School before graduating from East
7St. Louis Senior High School in 1975; he subsequently enrolled
8at Southern Illinois University in the fall of 1975; and
 
9    WHEREAS, As a child, David Bozeman, Sr. worked at Bozeman's
10Confectionery for his parents until they sold the confectionery
11in 1977; he later worked for the United States Postal Service
12from November 18, 1978 to October 17, 2003; he served as
13postmaster of the Caseyville Post Office from June 2, 1990
14until his retirement and as postmaster of the Godfrey Post
15Office from February 20, 1993 until his retirement; while
16employed at the Postal Service, he received many service
17awards; and
 
18    WHEREAS, In 2012, David Bozeman, Sr. served as the chair
19for the group of Illinois volunteers that built the National
20Baptist Congress Habitat for Humanity Home in St. Louis,
21Missouri; after Hurricane Katrina, he recruited Illinois
22Laymen to go to Louisiana and hosted annual "Shepherd vs.

1Sheep" basketball games to raise funds for the Second Chance
2Shelter; he also served on the board of New Salem Place, a Home
3for Seniors; and
 
4    WHEREAS, David Bozeman, Sr. served as president of the New
5Salem District Laymen Auxiliary from 2000 to 2008 and as
6president of the Illinois State Baptist General Laymen's
7Ministry; and
 
8    WHEREAS, David Bozeman, Sr. was preceded in death by his
9parents, Charles and Corine Bozeman, Sr.; his brother, Charles
10Leach; his sister, Denise Bozeman; and his mother-in-law,
11Pearline Haire; and
 
12    WHEREAS, David Bozeman, Sr. is survived by his wife,
13Yolanda; his sons, David A. Bozeman, Jr., and Rev. Michael
14(Nia) Owens; his grandchildren, Gavin and Micah; his brother,
15Charles (Carlon) Bozeman, Jr.; his sisters, Coretta Bozeman,
16Dr. Gloria B. (Brent) Herndon, O. Jean Pittman, Barbara
17(Alonzo) Monigan, Charlene Stamps, and Trueal Wheeler; his
18stepbrothers, Jerry (Luetricha) Wood and Robert (Agnes) Wood;
19his brother-in-law, Johnnie (Arleatha) Haire; his
20god-children, Brittany Wince, Reginald Wince II, Isaiah
21Williams, and Symone Griffin; his special parents, Rev. and
22Mrs. Norman E. Owens; his many nieces, nephews, and cousins;
23his fellow Laymen; his St. John family; and his many other

1relatives and friends; therefore, be it
 
2    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL
3ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his
4family and friends, mourn the passing of David Anthony Bozeman,
5Sr.; and be it further
 
6    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
7presented to the family of David Bozeman, Sr. as an expression
8of our sympathy.
