SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Samuel Parker of Beach Park, who passed away on August 2, 2013; and

WHEREAS, Samuel Parker was born on February 17, 1924 in Burdette, Arkansas; his parents were Lonnie and Aree (Branch) Parker; he married Gussie Lee Bonner in 1942 in Catron, Missouri; in 1944, the couple moved to Illinois, where they lived in Zion, Waukegan, North Chicago, and Beach Park; and

WHEREAS, Samuel Parker was employed with American Motors in Kenosha, Wisconsin for 41 years; and

WHEREAS, Samuel Parker devoted his entire life to the service of his Lord, his family, his friends, and his community; in the 1960s, he joined Christian Valley Missionary Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and an associate minister; and

WHEREAS, Samuel Parker was preceded in death by his son, Charles Parker; and

WHEREAS, Samuel Parker is survived by his wife, Gussie Lee (Bonner) Parker; his sons, Samuel, Philip, Dennis, Lonnie, Bart, Danny, Adley, and Ted; his daughters, Terry Alhassan, Doris Coles, and LaWana Carter; his 29 grandchildren; his 21 great-grandchildren; his brothers, Joseph and John; and his sister, Naiomi "Toy" Varnell; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his family and friends, mourn the passing of Samuel Parker; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Samuel Parker as an expression of our sympathy.
