SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Terrance M. Flaherty, Sr. of Peoria, who passed away on August 1, 2013; and

WHEREAS, Terrance Flaherty, Sr. was born on September 6, 1943, in Peoria to Martin and Agnes (Kearns) Flaherty; he attended Spalding Institute in Peoria and was a graduate of Regis College in Denver, Colorado; he married Sheila O'Donoghue on February 12, 1966, in Peoria; and

WHEREAS, Terrance Flaherty, Sr. worked for Caterpillar Inc. for more than 40 years; and

WHEREAS, Terrance Flaherty, Sr. enjoyed spending his time as a grandpa, babysitter, carpool driver, coach, and handyman; he liked to travel and take cruises around the world with his wife; he was active with Saint Philomena Parish, Boy Scout Troop 18, the Peoria Youth Hockey Association, and Saint Brendan's Irish Society; he established the Peoria Parochial Soccer Program and volunteered his time with the Order of Saint Francis Medical Center, the Mended Hearts Association, and SeniorNet; he was a Master Gardner and a Master Naturalist; and

WHEREAS, Terrance Flaherty, Sr. was preceded in death by his brother, Arthur Silk; and

WHEREAS, Terrance Flaherty, Sr. is survived by his wife, Sheila; his children, Terrance (Jennifer) Flaherty, Jr., Brian (Karen) Flaherty, Patrick Flaherty, and Meghan (Matthew) Dries; his grandchildren, Brigid, Terrance, Colin, Brendan, Declan, Liam, Owen, Aidan, Tristan, Evan, Allison, Kaitlyn, Elizabeth, and Lillian; his brother, Martin (Lilyan) Flaherty; his sister-in-law, Mary Lu Silk; and many nieces and nephews; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Terrance M. Flaherty, Sr., and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Terrance Flaherty, Sr. as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
