SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Don Robinson of Springfield, who passed away on November 18, 2012; and

WHEREAS, Don Robinson was born to Frank and Naydine (nee Mitchell) Robinson on January 25, 1932; he was a U.S. Army veteran and served 2 tours of duty in the Korean War; he attended Brown's Business School and the University of Illinois Police Training Institute; he married Doris Woolery on June 5, 1955; and

WHEREAS, Don Robinson worked as a Springfield Lake Policeman and later as an officer and detective with the Springfield Police Department; while serving in law enforcement, he also worked as a car salesman, eventually becoming co-owner of Railsplitter Lincoln-Mercury; in 1990, he branched out on his own and opened Don Robinson's Auto Sales; he eventually returned to his law enforcement roots, taking a position as security guard at the Illinois Supreme Court Building from 2000-2008; and

WHEREAS, Affectionately known as "Donnie", "Uncle Don", "Papa", and "Grandpa Don", Don Robinson enjoyed giving back to his community and served as a Foster Grandparent in the Springfield Public Schools; and

WHEREAS, Don Robinson was baptized at Union Baptist Church and remained a member throughout his life; and

WHEREAS, Don Robinson was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Frank (Jackie) Robinson; and his sister, Delores (Harold) Fristoe; and

WHEREAS, Don Robinson is survived by his wife, Doris "Toots"; his children, Colleen "Bright Eyes" (Andre Hawks) Robinson and Jacki "Puddin" Robinson-Ivy; his grandchildren, Constance Robinson and Trevor Ivy; his brothers, Raymond (Jane), Tony (Jean), and Darwin (Claudia); his sisters, Merrill (Leroy) McDaniels and Gloria Hayes; his uncle, George; his aunt, Rachel Jones; his nieces and nephews; his friend of 73 years, Paul "Godfather" Harmon; and his friend of 45 years, Virginia "VP" Palic; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Don Robinson, and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Don Robinson as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
