SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Dr. Norbert T. "Doc" Patterson, who passed away on October 3, 2014; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Norbert Patterson was born on July 1, 1933 in Chicago; his parents were James and Sarah Ann (nee Cully) Patterson; he married Lucille Chick on September 8, 1956 in Chicago; he and his wife moved to Harvard in 1958, where he started his optometric career; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Norbert Patterson served his country as a member of the Army National Guard of Illinois from 1957 until his honorable discharge in 1963; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Norbert Patterson graduated from the University of Illinois and the Illinois College of Optometry; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Norbert Patterson was a highly respected optometrist in Harvard for 55 years; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Norbert Patterson was a member of the Illinois Optometric Association and the American Optometric Association; he was also a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Harvard for 56 years, where he served on the church council and sang in the Senior Choir; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Norbert Patterson was a past president of the Harvard Rotary Club, where he proudly raised funds for student scholarships and had 54-plus years of perfect attendance in the Rotary; he was one of the original founders of the Harvard Swimming Pool, serving as President of the Board Association; he was a past chairman of the Harvard Milk Days, serving as the Milk Day Queen Chairman for over 25 years; he was also one of the founders of the Harvard Snow Gophers Snowmobile Club, enjoying trips north with the club members, and was a member of the Harvard Moose Lodge; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Norbert Patterson enjoyed boating, swimming, snowmobiling, and entertaining his family and friends; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Norbert Patterson was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Lucille; his parents; a brother, Melville; 2 brothers-in-law, Orville Pagles and James Hobbs; 2 sisters-in-law, Shirley Patterson and Dolores Cotter; and a great-nephew, Tyler Pagles; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Norbert Patterson is survived by a sister, Dolores Pagles Hobbs; a twin brother, Dr. Norman S. Patterson; a sister-in-law, Charlene Patterson; a brother-in-law, Jack Cotter; and many cousins in Northern Ireland; he was also a loving uncle to many nieces and nephews, Pamela (Kelly) Camp, David Camp, Brian (Jennifer) Camp, James (Linda) Pagles, Jonathan (Lillie) and Joshua Pagles, Cindy (Tim) Douglas, Jeffrey Patterson, Steven (Tina) Patterson, Donna Mirabelli, Scott Patterson, Todd (Stephanie) Patterson, Jay (Whitney) Patterson, Lynn (Jeff) Schabel, James (Anne) Patterson, Susan (Lou) Cotter-Lipschultz, Jeannie (Jim) Cotter-Sencion, and Joseph (Belinda) Cotter; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his family and friends, mourn the passing of Dr. Norbert T. "Doc" Patterson; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Dr. Norbert Patterson as an expression of our sympathy.
