SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Dr. Norbert T. "Doc" Patterson, who
4passed away on October 3, 2014; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Dr. Norbert Patterson was born on July 1, 1933 in
6Chicago; his parents were James and Sarah Ann (nee Cully)
7Patterson; he married Lucille Chick on September 8, 1956 in
8Chicago; he and his wife moved to Harvard in 1958, where he
9started his optometric career; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Dr. Norbert Patterson served his country as a
11member of the Army National Guard of Illinois from 1957 until
12his honorable discharge in 1963; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Dr. Norbert Patterson graduated from the
14University of Illinois and the Illinois College of Optometry;
15and
 
16    WHEREAS, Dr. Norbert Patterson was a highly respected
17optometrist in Harvard for 55 years; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Dr. Norbert Patterson was a member of the Illinois
19Optometric Association and the American Optometric
20Association; he was also a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in

1Harvard for 56 years, where he served on the church council and
2sang in the Senior Choir; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Dr. Norbert Patterson was a past president of the
4Harvard Rotary Club, where he proudly raised funds for student
5scholarships and had 54-plus years of perfect attendance in the
6Rotary; he was one of the original founders of the Harvard
7Swimming Pool, serving as President of the Board Association;
8he was a past chairman of the Harvard Milk Days, serving as the
9Milk Day Queen Chairman for over 25 years; he was also one of
10the founders of the Harvard Snow Gophers Snowmobile Club,
11enjoying trips north with the club members, and was a member of
12the Harvard Moose Lodge; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Dr. Norbert Patterson enjoyed boating, swimming,
14snowmobiling, and entertaining his family and friends; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Dr. Norbert Patterson was preceded in death by his
16beloved wife, Lucille; his parents; a brother, Melville; 2
17brothers-in-law, Orville Pagles and James Hobbs; 2
18sisters-in-law, Shirley Patterson and Dolores Cotter; and a
19great-nephew, Tyler Pagles; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Dr. Norbert Patterson is survived by a sister,
21Dolores Pagles Hobbs; a twin brother, Dr. Norman S. Patterson;
22a sister-in-law, Charlene Patterson; a brother-in-law, Jack

1Cotter; and many cousins in Northern Ireland; he was also a
2loving uncle to many nieces and nephews, Pamela (Kelly) Camp,
3David Camp, Brian (Jennifer) Camp, James (Linda) Pagles,
4Jonathan (Lillie) and Joshua Pagles, Cindy (Tim) Douglas,
5Jeffrey Patterson, Steven (Tina) Patterson, Donna Mirabelli,
6Scott Patterson, Todd (Stephanie) Patterson, Jay (Whitney)
7Patterson, Lynn (Jeff) Schabel, James (Anne) Patterson, Susan
8(Lou) Cotter-Lipschultz, Jeannie (Jim) Cotter-Sencion, and
9Joseph (Belinda) Cotter; therefore, be it
 
10    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL
11ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his
12family and friends, mourn the passing of Dr. Norbert T. "Doc"
13Patterson; and be it further
 
14    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
15presented to the family of Dr. Norbert Patterson as an
16expression of our sympathy.
