SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of George H. Miller; and

WHEREAS, George Miller served as president of the Township Officials of Illinois from 1977 to 1979 and served as the organization's executive director from 1979 to 1996; he also served as editor of the organization's magazine; and

WHEREAS, After his retirement from the Township Officials of Illinois, George Miller served the Citizens Utility Board as its statewide secretary; he also volunteered at the Chicago History Museum and was active in the Kiwanis; and

WHEREAS, George Miller served as Auditor and a trustee in Leyden Township for 12 years; he also served as president of the Township Officials of Cook County and took part in discussions to create an organization that would become the National Association of Towns and Townships; and

WHEREAS, George Miller will be fondly remembered by his peers as a tireless worker for township government who relished taking on anti-township activists with a fervor based in his belief that townships are essential and that they provide important services; and

WHEREAS, George Miller was the loving husband of the late Shirley; the beloved father of Susan (William) Hoppe and the late Carol Miller (Glen Ahrens); the proud grandfather of David (Sarah) Hoppe; the great-grandfather of Elli Hoppe; the fond brother of Jack (Judi) Miller; the devoted companion of Audrey Bundy; and the caring uncle and friend of many; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his family and friends, mourn the passing of George H. Miller; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of George Miller as an expression of our sympathy.
