SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Wilma Lucille Smith of Anchorage, Alaska,
4who passed away on May 25, 2014; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Wilma Smith was born on March 20, 1925 in Wausau,
6Wisconsin to Otto Ihlenfeld and Ariel Cottrell; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Wilma Smith earned her high school equivalence and
8an associate's degree in Business Administration while in her
950s, as she had to leave school and work to help support her
10family during the Great Depression; she also took pride in her
11support of the war effort during World War II, moving to Los
12Angeles and becoming a skilled assembler of the precision
13instruments used in the American heavy bombers that helped
14liberate Europe; she married Harry H. Smith near the end of the
15war; and
 
16    WHEREAS, In the 1950s, Wilma Smith and her family relocated
17to Flint, Michigan, where she worked as an emergency room ward
18clerk at St. Joseph Hospital, then as a pediatric ward clerk at
19McLaren General Hospital; she also worked in a variety of
20service occupations and volunteered later in life, helping
21children and other seniors; and

1    WHEREAS, Wilma Smith was preceded in death by her parents,
2and by her husband, Harry; and
 
3    WHEREAS, "Gramma Willie", as she was lovingly known, is
4survived by her children, Lynnell Catherine (James H.) Hanes
5and Brian (Cherie) Kibble-Smith; her grandchildren, Daniel,
6Rachel, Sarah, Bethany, and David; her grand-nephew, Jonathan;
7her great-grandchildren, Krystal Everhart and Matthew Wilson;
8and numerous loving relatives and many friends; therefore, be
9it
 
10    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL
11ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
12Wilma Lucille Smith, and extend our sincere condolences to her
13family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it
14further
 
15    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
16presented to the family of Wilma Smith as an expression of our
17deepest sympathy.
