SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Ethel Louise Brooks of East St. Louis,
4who passed away on June 6, 2014; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Ethel Brooks was born in Troy, Tennessee on April
66, 1932 to Bessie Suggest and Jennings Brooks; she was educated
7in the Union, Tennessee school system and moved to East St.
8Louis; she attended Southern Illinois University in
9Edwardsville, Springfield College, and Sangamon University;
10she married Robert Marshall Brooks; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Ethel Brooks was employed with East St. Louis
12School District 189 and worked in local real estate, purchasing
13and maintaining several properties; she was a familiar face at
14St. Mary's Hospital in East St. Louis, greeting and welcoming
15those who were visiting; she eventually began working as
16Executive Legislative Assistant to State Senator Kenneth Hall,
17Sr. and State Senator James Clayborne, Jr. for many years until
18her retirement; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Ethel Brooks enjoyed reading, tending to her rose
20garden and flowers, lunches, ladies day outings, and spending
21time with children and her grandchildren; and

1    WHEREAS, Ethel Brooks was preceded in death by both
2grandparents; her parents; her husband, Robert; and her son,
3Kevin Rene Brooks; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Ethel Brooks is survived by her son, Robert M.
5Brooks, II "Bobby"; grandchildren, Jason (Christina) Brooks
6and Nicholai and Ashlea Brooks; great-grandson, Dominic
7Brooks; sister, Joan Davis; daughter-in-law, Marla (Roger)
8Tolson; and a host of nieces, special friends, neighbors,
9co-workers, and her church family; therefore, be it
 
10    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL
11ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
12Ethel Louise Brooks, and extend our sincere condolences to her
13family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it
14further
 
15    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
16presented to the family of Ethel Brooks as an expression of our
17deepest sympathy.
