SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Louis D. Gilbert of Macomb, who passed away on May 22, 2014; and

WHEREAS, Louis Gilbert was born on June 4, 1938; his parents were Leon and Flora Frakes Gilbert; he married Melvina Weaver on April 18, 1965; and

WHEREAS, Louis Gilbert served in the United States Navy from 1959 to 1965, having served on the USS Essex during the Cuban Missile Crisis; and

WHEREAS, Louis Gilbert was a self-employed painter since 1974; he also served as a Macomb City Alderman for 12 years, having served on the City Council's public transportation and public works committees and as the City's representative on joint projects undertaken with McDonough County; and

WHEREAS, Louis Gilbert was a member of the Macomb American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the Macomb Masonic Lodge; and

WHEREAS, Louis Gilbert was preceded in death by his parents; 5 brothers; and a sister; and

WHEREAS, Louis Gilbert is survived by his wife, Melvina; 2 sons, Lance Gilbert and Lonnie (Wendy) Gilbert; a daughter, Angela (Mitch) Lynn; 4 grandchildren, Nick and Drake Gilbert and Madison and Camryn Lynn; 3 great-grandchildren, Jace, Adalynn, and Talan Gilbert; a brother, Joe Gilbert; and a sister, Marilyn Saliares; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his family and friends, mourn the passing of Louis D. Gilbert; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Louis Gilbert as an expression of our sympathy.
