SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Alice Mae McCluggage of Harvard, who passed away on May 2, 2014; and

WHEREAS, Alice McCluggage was born in St. Louis, Missouri on May 1, 1927 to Robert and Emma (nee Wukert) Zulpo; she married Robert McCluggage on June 25, 1962 in Chicago; and

WHEREAS, Alice McCluggage was a dedicated homemaker, mother, organic gardner, and homesteader, and she taught homesteading classes at McHenry County College in the 1970s and 1980s; and

WHEREAS, Alice McCluggage was deeply involved in the Illinois Association for Retarded Children, the First Presbyterian Church of Harvard, and the Harvard Food Pantry; she also took great interest in nature and wildlife, planting over 100 trees in what had been a cornfield and welcoming deer, wild turkey, and fox; the National Wildlife Federation designated her property an official wildlife refuge; and

WHEREAS, Alice McCluggage was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert; son, Stephen; daughter, Jacqueline; and brother, Robert, Jr.; and

WHEREAS, Alice McCluggage is survived by her 3 daughters, Pamela Sourelis, Dian Sourelis, and Susan Johnson; 3 grandchildren, Sabin, Brian, and Darrell West; and 2 great-grandchildren, Breon and Brandon West; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Alice Mae McCluggage, and extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Alice McCluggage as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
