SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Dallas Harvey of Highland, who passed
4away on April 27, 2014; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Dallas Harvey was born in Schneider, Indiana on
6March 8, 1919 to Jessie Earl and Cora E. (nee Worcester)
7Harvey; he married Rita Mae on July 7, 1947 in Great Lakes; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Dallas Harvey joined the United States Navy in
91937; he was stationed at Pearl Harbor in December of 1941
10aboard the USS Argonne, a repair ship, and saw the first bomb
11drop during the Japanese attack; he served with the Navy and
12the Marine Corps during World War II as a Corpsman and was one
13of the first 40 officers chosen to command the Naval Medical
14Service Corps; he retired in 1967 after 30 years of service; in
15retirement, he was one of 3 individuals who established the
16Military Ministry for Campus Crusade for Christ for which he
17served as associate staff; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Dallas Harvey was a member of Faith Baptist Church
19in Highland, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Highland 5694, the
20American Legion, the Military Officers of America Association,
21and the Pearl Harbor Survivors Association; and

1    WHEREAS, Dallas Harvey was preceded in death by his
2parents; a daughter, Sharla Harvey; and brothers and sisters;
3and
 
4    WHEREAS, Dallas Harvey is survived by his wife, Rita Mae; 2
5sons, Steven (Debbie) Harvey and Ed (Sylvia) Harvey; 10
6grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and family friend, Kate
7Broadhurst; therefore, be it
 
8    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL
9ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
10Dallas Harvey, and extend our sincere condolences to his
11family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
12further
 
13    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
14presented to the family of Dallas Harvey as an expression of
15our deepest sympathy.
