SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Harriet Wilson, who passed away on April
413, 2014; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Harriet Wilson was born on September 20, 1922 in
6Darlaston, South Staffordshire, England; her parents were
7Henry and Annie May (nee Foster) Moreton; she married Stan
8Wilson on June 2, 1945 in Darlaston; she lived in Wonder Lake
9for 63 years and was a happy winter Snowbird in Sun City,
10Arizona; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Harriet Wilson served in the Auxiliary
12Territorial Service in World War II from 1940 to 1945; she was
13one of the first women trained on the then-new radar detection
14system; while stationed on the southeast coast of England, she
15met her future husband; and
 
16    WHEREAS, After she was demobilized from the Auxiliary
17Territorial Service, Harriet Wilson came to the United States
18on a Canadian War Bride ship in 1946; she and her husband moved
19to Chicago and stayed on the weekends at the Wonder Lake
20boarding house of Earl and Ruth Barnard across from the Mill
21Inn in Wonder Lake; they later bought their home in Wonder Lake
22and happily lived there for 63 years; during this time, she

1helped her husband with the printing of the local Township
2News; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Harriet Wilson was a Sunday school teacher at
4Nativity Lutheran Church, a room mother at Harrison School, and
5a Brownie and Girl Scout leader for many years; she also worked
6at the Admiral Corporation in McHenry and Science Research
7(SRA) in Lakemoor before retiring from Oak Industries in
8Crystal Lake; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Harriet Wilson was a Lifetime Member of the
10Woodstock Women of the Moose Chapter 364 and a proud member and
11Recording Secretary of the McHenry American Legion Post #491;
12one of her favorite obligations as a member of the American
13Legion was to present the American Legion Awards each year at
14Harrison School; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Harriet Wilson enjoyed knitting, sewing, and
16gardening; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Harriet Wilson was preceded in death by her
18parents; her loving husband of 63 years, Stan; an infant son,
19Paul; a sister, May (the late William) Pitt; and 3 brothers,
20Harry, Eric, and George; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Harriet Wilson is survived by a daughter, Ruth

1(the late Robert) Cepuder; grandchildren, Jennifer Thibault
2and Aaron (Jen) Cepuder, Sr.; her great-grandchildren,
3Samantha and Alyia Thibault, AJ (Aaron) Cepuder, Jr., and Cole
4and Zach Hedlund; sisters, Gladys (the late Tom) Dockery and
5Joan (the late Tom) Moseley; a brother, John (the late Dorothy)
6Moreton; a sister-in-law, Betty (the late George) Moreton; and
7like a sister, Ida Behling; she was also a very special 'long
8distance' great aunt to Valery (John) Russell, Jean (Sid)
9Martin, Peter (Julie) Moseley, Yvonne (John) Collins,
10Christopher (Jane) Moreton, Stephen (Sue) Moreton, and their
11families who reside in England; therefore, be it
 
12    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL
13ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with her
14family and friends, mourn the passing of Harriet Wilson; and be
15it further
 
16    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
17presented to the family of Harriet Wilson as an expression of
18our sympathy.
