SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, It is highly fitting that the Illinois General Assembly pays honor and respect to individuals who gave their lives in service to their communities; and

WHEREAS, Brian T. Hauk was a dedicated volunteer for 15 years for the Logan Trivoli Fire Protection District; the district encompasses 87 square miles in Peoria County and, at one time, State Route 116 was the heaviest traveled 2 lane highway in the State; and

WHEREAS, Brian T. Hauk had only been Assistant Chief for 6 months when he gave his life in the line of duty on December 23, 1997 while responding to a fire call; and

WHEREAS, Brian T. Hauk was honored at the Firefighters State Memorial in Springfield in May of 1998 and, in October of 1998, at the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial in Emmitsburg, Maryland; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING HEREIN, that we designate Illinois State Route 116 as it passes through Peoria County from 10300 West Farmington Road in Hanna City to 22290 West Farmington Road in Elmwood as the Assistant Fire Chief Brian T. Hauk Memorial Highway; and be it further

RESOLVED, That the Illinois Department of Transportation is requested to erect at suitable locations, consistent with State and federal regulations, appropriate plaques or signs giving notice of the name; and be it further

RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be presented to the family of Assistant Fire Chief Brian T. Hauk and the Secretary of the Department of Transportation, Ann L. Schneider.
