HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to congratulate Leyden High School District 212 on being chosen as one of 3 2013 Advanced Placement District of the Year award winners; and

WHEREAS, The honor is bestowed by the College Board and is given to recognize those 3 districts that have made especially dramatic improvements among traditionally underserved populations; the award recognizes one large district with more than 50,000 students, one medium-sized district with between 8,000 and 50,000 students, and one small district with less than 8,000 students; and

WHEREAS, Among districts with small-sized populations, Leyden High School District 212 students achieved higher increases in Advanced Placement course participation and performance than any other small district in the country, putting the schools on the 2013 Advanced Placement Honor Roll; Honor Roll districts increase the number of students taking Advanced Placement exams and the percentage of students earning scores of 3 or higher; it was from 477 honor roll districts nationwide that District 212 and 2 other districts were chosen as district of the year winners; and

WHEREAS, Leyden High School District is one of 3 districts featured in the Advanced Placement Report to the Nation, a College Board website that features interviews of teachers and students from each of the 3 designated award-winning districts; and

WHEREAS, Leyden High School District 212 held a celebratory assembly on January 27, 2014 that featured numerous dignitaries and was filmed as part of a promotional video to be included on the College Board website; in addition, the College Board will host several staff members and students as presenters at the National Advanced Placement Conference to be held in Philadelphia in July of 2014; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Leyden High School District 212 on being chosen as one of 3 2013 Advanced Placement District of the Year award winners; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Leyden High School District 212 as an expression of our esteem and respect.
