HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, On December 7, 1941, a surprise attack came upon
3the armed forces of the United States of America; and
 
4    WHEREAS, The bombs that fell on the island of Oahu in
5Hawaii wounded over 1,100 American patriots and took the lives
6of almost 2,400; and
 
7    WHEREAS, These sons and daughters of our land
8altruistically and selflessly sacrificed their lives for our
9country's safety; and
 
10    WHEREAS, They gave their lives to defend freedom everywhere
11against the forces of tyranny and oppression during the Second
12World War; therefore, be it
 
13    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
14NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
15we remember those who sacrificed their lives at Pearl Harbor on
16December 7, 1941; and be it further
 
17    RESOLVED, That we petition the United States Congress to
18make Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day a federal holiday to
19memorialize those courageous sons and daughters who fought and
20died at Pearl Harbor, recognize all Americans who carried their

1legacy forward, and reaffirm our commitment to upholding the
2ideals of freedom for which they gave the greatest sacrifice;
3and be it further
 
4    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
5presented to the United States Congress as a symbol of our
6enduring respect and commitment to the memory of the noble sons
7and daughters of United States of America who were wounded and
8died upon that infamous day.
