HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, On December 7, 1941, a surprise attack came upon the armed forces of the United States of America; and

WHEREAS, The bombs that fell on the island of Oahu in Hawaii wounded over 1,100 American patriots and took the lives of almost 2,400; and

WHEREAS, These sons and daughters of our land altruistically and selflessly sacrificed their lives for our country's safety; and

WHEREAS, They gave their lives to defend freedom everywhere against the forces of tyranny and oppression during the Second World War; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we remember those who sacrificed their lives at Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941; and be it further

RESOLVED, That we petition the United States Congress to make Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day a federal holiday to memorialize those courageous sons and daughters who fought and died at Pearl Harbor, recognize all Americans who carried their legacy forward, and reaffirm our commitment to upholding the ideals of freedom for which they gave the greatest sacrifice; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the United States Congress as a symbol of our enduring respect and commitment to the memory of the noble sons and daughters of United States of America who were wounded and died upon that infamous day.
