HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to congratulate Judge John Gorman on the occasion of his retirement; and

WHEREAS, Judge Gorman will retire on February 18, 2014 after serving 14 years as a distinguished Federal Magistrate in Federal District Court in Peoria; and

WHEREAS, Judge Gorman was appointed Circuit Judge in 1980, elected in 1982, and served until 1990 when he was appointed to the Appellate Court; and

WHEREAS, As Chief Judge from 1994-1998, Judge Gorman was instrumental in improving the juvenile detention center, creating a drug court, and organizing an alternative school; he led the judicial education committee statewide and received the Newman Award for those efforts; and

WHEREAS, Judge Gorman was born in Flanagan on May 5, 1942 to John and Lorene Gorman; he graduated from Flanagan High School and Illinois Wesleyan University with honors; he earned his Juris Doctor from the University of Illinois Law School in 1967 and practiced with Goldsworthy, Fifield, and Gorman until 1979 when he was selected to be an Associate Judge; and

WHEREAS, Judge Gorman married Susan Williams in June of 1964 and they have 3 daughters, Kate (Jim) Hubler, Kristen (Todd) Jones, and Kerry (Marc) Wells and 7 grandchildren, Ellie and Ava Hubler, Tyler and Ryan Jones, and Josie, Joanna, and Julia Wells; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Judge John Gorman on his retirement and wish him the best in all his future endeavors; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Judge Gorman as an expression of our esteem and respect.
