HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are pleased to congratulate Judge John Gorman
4on the occasion of his retirement; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Judge Gorman will retire on February 18, 2014
6after serving 14 years as a distinguished Federal Magistrate in
7Federal District Court in Peoria; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Judge Gorman was appointed Circuit Judge in 1980,
9elected in 1982, and served until 1990 when he was appointed to
10the Appellate Court; and
 
11    WHEREAS, As Chief Judge from 1994-1998, Judge Gorman was
12instrumental in improving the juvenile detention center,
13creating a drug court, and organizing an alternative school; he
14led the judicial education committee statewide and received the
15Newman Award for those efforts; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Judge Gorman was born in Flanagan on May 5, 1942
17to John and Lorene Gorman; he graduated from Flanagan High
18School and Illinois Wesleyan University with honors; he earned
19his Juris Doctor from the University of Illinois Law School in
201967 and practiced with Goldsworthy, Fifield, and Gorman until
211979 when he was selected to be an Associate Judge; and

1    WHEREAS, Judge Gorman married Susan Williams in June of
21964 and they have 3 daughters, Kate (Jim) Hubler, Kristen
3(Todd) Jones, and Kerry (Marc) Wells and 7 grandchildren, Ellie
4and Ava Hubler, Tyler and Ryan Jones, and Josie, Joanna, and
5Julia Wells; therefore, be it
 
6    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
7NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
8we congratulate Judge John Gorman on his retirement and wish
9him the best in all his future endeavors; and be it further
 
10    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
11presented to Judge Gorman as an expression of our esteem and
12respect.
