HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, State Representative Monique D. Davis and the members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to congratulate Derrick A. Calhoun of Chicago's Morgan Park High School on being inducted into the Illinois Track and Cross Country Coaches Association's Hall-of-Fame; and

WHEREAS, The 2014 class consisted of nearly 40 coaches being nominated and the possibility of up to 7 members being selected; the coaching record, contributions to the sport outside of coaching, and character are all considered when reflecting on a coaches worthiness for induction; and

WHEREAS, Derrick A. Calhoun has coached the girls track and field cross country teams, the Mustangs, for 25 years; his teams have earned 7 Illinois High School Association State Championships and another 7 runner-up titles; they also have won 15 consecutive Chicago city championships in track and field and 9 city championships in cross country; 43 times his athletes have won gold medals at the State track and field meet; he has coached 18 individual and 25 relay State champions; 6 times his athletes have set State records and they have earned a total of 106 individual State medals; and

WHEREAS, Derrick A. Calhoun has also been involved in track and field on a national level; in 2011, he was head coach for the USA world youth team which competed in Lilli, France; he also served as USA youth national team coach in Poland and Hungry and 8 times he has bene awarded the Illinois Track and Cross Country Coaches Association's Coach-of-the-Year; and

WHEREAS, Derrick A. Calhoun was inducted at the Illinois Track and Cross Country Coaches Association's annual Hall-of-Fame Banquet on January 11, 2014; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Derrick A. Calhoun on being inducted into the Illinois Track and Cross Country Coaches Association's Hall-of-Fame and we wish him many more years of success; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Derrick A. Calhoun as an expression of our esteem and respect.
