HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are pleased to congratulate the McHenry County
4Jewish Congregation on the 35th anniversary of its founding and
5Rabbi Marilee Gordon on her 10th anniversary as its spiritual
6leader, both taking place in 2014; and
 
7    WHEREAS, The McHenry County Jewish Congregation provides
8an environment for spiritual engagement, education,
9observance, and celebration, enabling people of the Jewish
10faith from all backgrounds to connect to their heritage,
11culture, and beliefs; and
 
12    WHEREAS, The McHenry County Jewish Congregation grew out of
13an informal 'Lox and Bagels' club of Jewish men and women, who
14established a congregation in 1979, open to all, to serve the
15growing Jewish population of the area; and
 
16    WHEREAS, The new congregation established itself in an
17historic schoolhouse in Crystal Lake, which will be marking the
18100th anniversary of its construction in 2014; and
 
19    WHEREAS, The McHenry County Jewish Congregation's
20charitable, educational, and spiritual works contribute to the
21diverse social fabric of McHenry County; and

1    WHEREAS, The McHenry County Jewish Congregation promotes
2interfaith collaboration, understanding, and tolerance, in
3McHenry County and beyond; therefore, be it
 
4    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
5NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
6we congratulate the McHenry County Jewish Congregation on the
735th anniversary of its founding and Marilee Gordon on the 10th
8anniversary of her becoming its spiritual leader, and we thank
9them for their service to the communities of McHenry County;
10and be it further
 
11    RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be
12presented to the McHenry County Jewish Congregation and Rabbi
13Marilee Gordon as an expression of our esteem and respect.
