HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to congratulate the McHenry County Jewish Congregation on the 35th anniversary of its founding and Rabbi Marilee Gordon on her 10th anniversary as its spiritual leader, both taking place in 2014; and

WHEREAS, The McHenry County Jewish Congregation provides an environment for spiritual engagement, education, observance, and celebration, enabling people of the Jewish faith from all backgrounds to connect to their heritage, culture, and beliefs; and

WHEREAS, The McHenry County Jewish Congregation grew out of an informal 'Lox and Bagels' club of Jewish men and women, who established a congregation in 1979, open to all, to serve the growing Jewish population of the area; and

WHEREAS, The new congregation established itself in an historic schoolhouse in Crystal Lake, which will be marking the 100th anniversary of its construction in 2014; and

WHEREAS, The McHenry County Jewish Congregation's charitable, educational, and spiritual works contribute to the diverse social fabric of McHenry County; and

WHEREAS, The McHenry County Jewish Congregation promotes interfaith collaboration, understanding, and tolerance, in McHenry County and beyond; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate the McHenry County Jewish Congregation on the 35th anniversary of its founding and Marilee Gordon on the 10th anniversary of her becoming its spiritual leader, and we thank them for their service to the communities of McHenry County; and be it further

RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be presented to the McHenry County Jewish Congregation and Rabbi Marilee Gordon as an expression of our esteem and respect.
