HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to honor Ray Lomas of Rock Island on a lifetime of helping children in the communities that surround him; and

WHEREAS, Since the 1950s, Ray Lomas has been a fixture in Rock Island, helping underprivileged kids; he has coached baseball teams, started the Rock Island Track Club in the early 1960s, and was a co-founder of the Metro Youth Group in the 1980s; and

WHEREAS, On October 24, 2013, approximately 250 people attended a gathering at the Rock Island Holiday Inn to honor Ray Lomas; in attendance was Rock Island Mayor Dennis Pauley who declared October 24 to be Ray Lomas Day in the city; and

WHEREAS, Ray Lomas was born in Jackson, Mississippi and his family eventually settled in Rock Island; and

WHEREAS, Ray Lomas spent 36 years working for the John Deere Company in East Moline; and

WHEREAS, Ray Lomas has touched the lives of hundreds, if not thousands, of children and has always tried to make a difference, not only in the west end of Rock Island, but the in the Quad-Cites as well; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we recognize and honor Ray Lomas on a lifetime of helping others and wish him the best in all his future endeavors; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Ray Lomas as an expression of our esteem and respect.
