HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are pleased to honor Sam Sanchez for his myriad
4of accomplishments within the business community and his
5devotion to the betterment of the neighborhoods in which he
6lives and works; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Sam Sanchez is the principal partner and oversees
8all facets of a multi-unit, multi-million dollar restaurant
9business, including operations and business development for 4
10John Barleycorn locations and 2 Moe's Cantina locations; he
11currently serves as project manager for the Old Crow
12Smokehouse, a new barbecue concept under development in
13Chicago's Wrigleyville neighborhood; and
 
14    WHEREAS, In addition to his restaurants, Sam Sanchez owns
15EMC Construction, a full-service construction company that
16handles both renovations of existing properties and new
17construction; he also owns Samco Enterprises, a staff
18management and personnel training company; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Sam Sanchez is very active in the hospitality
20community and the neighborhoods where his venues are located;
21he is the President of the Chicago Hospitality Association, a
22member and former officer of the Lincoln Park Chamber of

1Commerce, a current commissioner for the Lincoln Avenue Special
2Service Area, and a member and former officer of the Illinois
3Restaurant Association; he also is an active member of the
4River North Business Association, the Central Lakeview
5Merchants Association, the East Lake View Neighbors
6Association, the Schaumburg Business Association, the Greater
7North Michigan Avenue Association, the Downtown Leadership
8Club, and Club 42, and he serves on the host committee of the
9Chicago Leadership Club; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Sam Sanchez is presently working with the City of
11Chicago and community leaders to stimulate economic growth in
12the 43rd Ward; he has been a vocal participant in the
13development of projects that have a major impact on the
14neighborhoods; he is a board member of the Lakefront Sculpture
15Exhibit, a privately-funded, not-for-profit corporation that
16concentrates on enriching the community with public art
17projects while supporting local artists; originally focused on
18the Lincoln Park neighborhood, the program has now grown to
19encompass 5 Chicago neighborhoods; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Safety and security is a top concern for Sam
21Sanchez and he is actively involved with the Chicago
22Alternative Policing Strategy in the 44th, 43rd, and 42nd
23Wards, working with residents and the police department to
24identify and solve neighborhood problems; he was instrumental

1in laying the groundwork with city and State legislators for
2the Comprehensive Alcohol Responsible Retailing Act to help
3curb overconsumption and binge drinking by setting service
4standards for both retail and on-premise alcohol sales; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Sam Sanchez hosts many charitable events at his
6venues throughout the year; the 43rd and 44th Ward Annual
7Senior Summer Barbecues; the 43rd Ward Annual Senior Bingo
8Party; the 44th Ward Annual Children's Holiday Party; the Ugly
9Sweater Party, an annual food drive for the Greater Chicago
10Food Depository; Pinko de Mayo, an annual event benefitting the
11Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation; and the Links
12Technology Cup, an annual fundraiser benefitting the
13Schaumburg Park Foundation; he also serves as a mentor and
14motivational speaker for Latino high school students with an
15interest in public policy and business as part of a mentorship
16program developed by Alderman George Cardenas; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Sam Sanchez has been married to Marga for 24 years
18and they have 3 daughters together, Samantha, Korina, and
19Camila; he enjoys entertaining at home and cooking for his
20family and friends; therefore, be it
 
21    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
22NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
23we recognize and honor Sam Sanchez for all his accomplishments,

1thank him for his commitment to his community, and wish him the
2best in all his future endeavors; and be it further
 
3    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
4presented to Sam Sanchez as an expression of our esteem and
5respect.
