HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to recognize Joseph Lis for his 37 years as a teacher at S.E. Gross Middle School and congratulate him for having the school's science lab named in his honor; and

WHEREAS, Joseph Lis served his country with distinction as a member of the United States Marine Corps; he earned his Bachelor's Degree in Education from DePaul University in 1956; and

WHEREAS, On a cloudy day in November of 1956, Joseph Lis got lost on his way to the Brookfield Zoo; he stopped at Gross Elementary School and asked for directions from the school's principal; after speaking with him, the principal offered Mr. Lis the position of science teacher, which he accepted; and

WHEREAS, During his teaching career, Joseph Lis gained a sterling reputation as a devoted and capable educator whose innovative teaching methods and pride of his Polish heritage were known throughout the district; he retired from S.E. Gross Middle School in 1993 after many years of dedicated service to his countless students; and

WHEREAS, Joseph Lis and his wife, Marlene, have 3 children, Kathleen, Christine, and Laureen; and

WHEREAS, The alumni of S.E. Gross Middle School will dedicate the school's science lab in honor of Joseph Lis on September 28, 2013; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Joseph Lis for having the science lab at S.E. Gross Middle School named in his honor, thank him for his many years of dedicated service in education, and wish him success and happiness in his future endeavors; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Joseph Lis as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
