HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to recognize Joseph Lis for his 37 years
4as a teacher at S.E. Gross Middle School and congratulate him
5for having the school's science lab named in his honor; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Joseph Lis served his country with distinction as
7a member of the United States Marine Corps; he earned his
8Bachelor's Degree in Education from DePaul University in 1956;
9and
 
10    WHEREAS, On a cloudy day in November of 1956, Joseph Lis
11got lost on his way to the Brookfield Zoo; he stopped at Gross
12Elementary School and asked for directions from the school's
13principal; after speaking with him, the principal offered Mr.
14Lis the position of science teacher, which he accepted; and
 
15    WHEREAS, During his teaching career, Joseph Lis gained a
16sterling reputation as a devoted and capable educator whose
17innovative teaching methods and pride of his Polish heritage
18were known throughout the district; he retired from S.E. Gross
19Middle School in 1993 after many years of dedicated service to
20his countless students; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Joseph Lis and his wife, Marlene, have 3 children,

1Kathleen, Christine, and Laureen; and
 
2    WHEREAS, The alumni of S.E. Gross Middle School will
3dedicate the school's science lab in honor of Joseph Lis on
4September 28, 2013; therefore, be it
 
5    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
6NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
7we congratulate Joseph Lis for having the science lab at S.E.
8Gross Middle School named in his honor, thank him for his many
9years of dedicated service in education, and wish him success
10and happiness in his future endeavors; and be it further
 
11    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
12presented to Joseph Lis as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
