HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to congratulate Harvest Baptist Church of Oswego on the 50th anniversary of its founding; and

WHEREAS, Harvest Baptist Church was founded on June 24, 1963, as an outreach of Claim Street Baptist Church of Aurora; known then as the Oswego Baptist Church, the first service was held on July 7, 1963, at Eastview School in Oswego under the leadership of interim pastor, Reverend Thomas Corkish; and

WHEREAS, In January 1966, the Oswego Baptist Church purchased the Oswego Presbyterian Church building and met there until July 1993, when its new building opened at the corner of Plainfield and Douglas Roads; in April 1992, the church was renamed Harvest Baptist Church of Oswego shortly before moving into their new building; and

WHEREAS, Continued growth warranted moving into another new building in September 2000; the church has seen the addition of a Children's Ministry Wing and 31,500 square feet to house a new sanctuary and foyer area; and

WHEREAS, Harvest Baptist Church is guided by current pastor Scott Poling, who began working at the church in 1995; and

WHEREAS, A weekend celebration, including a service, lunch, family fun, a fun run, and a car show, will be held July 6-7, 2013, at Harvest Baptist Church; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Harvest Baptist Church on the 50th anniversary of its founding; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Harvest Baptist Church as an expression of our esteem and respect.
